The Moon Sees Me

Black and white photograph of a foggy rocky cliff meeting the ocean

Women’s Fiction · Currently querying agents

Following the phases of the Lunar Cycle, this is a family drama teeming with secrets, class tensions, overbearing mothers, a wild high school road trip to San Diego, a pregnancy, a closed adoption, a college campus love story, the social elite of New England and a DNA test that unravels it all. This story explores whether revealing an unbearable truth to someone we love will be too painful to survive intact and if it’s possible to end generations of secrecy and live with an authenticity that can be healing and freeing.

An excerpt

You wouldn’t believe how something so small, invisible to the naked eye, could gut a life in a single morning. I’d be lying if I told you I was blindsided. My head is dizzy with regret, guilt, and fear, buzzing like hornets in a disturbed nest. Science will soon unleash a twisted ladder of unique molecules into a colossal data bank, opening Pandora’s box. While I’m able to keep my life polished to a high shine, I’m powerless in stopping this hairline crack in the porcelain. I only wonder if, when the shattering finally comes, we will be able to piece ourselves back together.

I straighten up her Laura Ashley floral duvet and plump the matching pillow shams. The gratitude journal I gave her on her twelfth birthday sits on the bedside table, with a pen attached with a long white feather. It’s one of those moments when I tiptoe along the parenting fence of respecting her privacy. I’m tempted to take a peek into the mysterious head of my moody daughter. Maybe there’s information I need to know. I stop myself as I am reminded of my own mother’s snooping.
