About

Carolyn Freudenthal on her deck with the pasture and fences behind her

Genres I write in: COMMERCIAL fiction, Romance +, Domestic Suspense/PSYCHOLOGICal thrillers and Book Club

I cut my teeth (and sharpened my claws) writing on the Grizzlybearma blog. Short-form essays about puppies and parenthood with a memoir-like vibe, drawn from my lived experience as a teacher, moving twelve times (including California, Connecticut, Texas and Virginia), raising four children and ending up on a hobby farm with a herd of goats, chickens and horses. I observed my share of morally gray characters, or what I would call people being human. Every one of us has a shadow.

Pivoting to Fiction has been freeing. Now I can turn up the heat on twisted characters and dramatic consequences. My favorite to read as well as to write: family sagas, buried secrets, social pressure cookers, coming of age (at different stages in life), enduring love stories and psychological suspense. I am drawn toward characters with good intentions who make bad decisions, creating obstacles they must navigate for redemption (or survival). No spoilers, but I am a sucker for a happily ever after.

Grizzly instincts. Razor-sharp suspense. The heart of a mother. The mind of a writer.
